The Book Seller Calculator was created to help thrifters and resellers make better pricing decisions. It started from real questions we heard in resale communities about how to value books fairly.
The condition grading system is based on common practices in the book resale community. Different platforms may have different standards, so use your best judgment.
We wanted to build something that works without needing an account, internet connection, or data collection. Your pricing history stays on your device.
The multiplier system reflects what we've seen in actual sales data. A mint book typically sells for closer to the highest recent sale, while a poor book may only reach a fraction of that.
Future versions may include genre-specific multipliers, regional pricing adjustments, and integration with more resale platforms.
Why This Exists
Many thrift store finds have value that isn't obvious at first glance. A book that looks worn might be a first edition. A paperback that seems common might be a rare printing. The calculator helps you pause and think about what you're holding before you pass it by or price it too low.
We also wanted to document condition standards in one place. The guide is based on what experienced sellers use, not marketing language from publishers.
How to Use These Results
The recommended price is a starting point. You might price slightly higher if the book is in excellent condition or if demand is currently strong. Price lower if you need to sell quickly or if the book is common.
Remember that fees matter. A $15 book with $5 in fees and shipping leaves only $10. Sometimes selling locally or bundling makes more sense.
Track your own results. If you notice the calculator is consistently off, adjust your approach and note what you're learning.
